Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see a true southern New Jersey masterpiece on loan to the Museum from Blue Heron Pines Golf Club.

Blue Majesty, carved by NJ artist Anthony Rudisill of Pleasantville, depicts two life-sized blue herons situated on wooden tree branches. Standing 16-square feet, it is the largest of Rudisill’s works, taking over two years to complete. The wooden sculpture captures remarkable realistic detail and seems at home looking over Lily Lake.

Rudisill is widely recognized for his depictions of wildlife and birds since the 1960s and is noted for his accuracy and strict attention to detail. Blue Majesty is one of the last works he completed prior to retirement.

The Nature of W. Carl Burger

January 18 - May 9, 2008 This exhibition of works by Carl Burger celebrates the natural environment of Southern New Jersey. His large scale expressionistic works on paper depicting the dramatic landscape in vibrant color were created especially for this exhibition, giving a sparkling glimpse of the wonder of the world surrounding us. At left Pineland Swamp, 2007 Watercolor and mixed media, 47 x 72 in.

From Cape May to Cairo: The Work of George Washington Nicholson

April 22 - November 9, 2008  Nicholson, an artist with a life-long connection to South Jersey, spent much of his life in Philadelphia, and the Garden State where he painted the Jersey marshes and shore. A world traveler, the artist retired to the town of Hammonton, where he lived until his death in 1912. Nicholson’s work represents the type of academic realism extremely popular in America and Europe during the turn of the century. An interesting subset of Nicholson's work focuses on "Orientalist" imagery - exotic Middle Eastern and North African subjects. The exhibition will include seascapes and New Jersey marsh paintings, as well as Orientalist subjects and other foreign landscapes.

This exhibition was made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations in this exhibition do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities or the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.

Additional project support was provided by the Visual Arts Program and the School of Arts & Humanities, The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

His art continues to inspire a growing number of admirers and collectors.
